Hosting...
{your data in the cloud}
Every site on the web is hosted (on a server) somewhere.
I offer a hosting service too, the details of which are outlined below:
You can read the Terms & Conditions of my hosting service here
The files for your website are stored and 'served' from Enterprise-Grade servers in world class Data Centers in London. This means that your website is delivered at the fastest speeds possible, through the very latest technology. Every aspect of the host server set-up is perfectly optimised for speed, performance and reliability.
Through a combination of Carbon Offsetting, Reduced Energy Consumption, and Data Centre Cooling Improvements the server providers have been awarded the Green Hosting Seal. If, like me, you are increasingly concerned with environmental and green issues then you can rest assured that your website is as environmentally friendly as possible.
This is the total available capacity for your website files. Many simple websites only use 20 – 30MB.
This is the amount of bandwidth you may use each month. A small amount of bandwidth is used every time someone accesses your site.
A mailbox is a space on the server where your email is stored. Each mailbox is usually associated with one email address.
This is the total size of each mailbox. Each email you receive takes up some of this space, but you can free up space by downloading emails to your own computer.
Buy up the .com and .co.uk domain names and have one point straight to the other: This way you never have to worry about somebody forgetting the suffix of your web address.
An alias is the bit of an email address which goes before the ‘@’ symbol. You can associate an alias with a mailbox, or forward all messages on to another address. I operate a fair usage policy with email aliases, but they are unlimited (within reason!).
Set up email addresses which simply forward on email sent to them.
This can be set to catch any message sent to an email address ending in @yourdomain.com. It can be a good way of making sure messages don’t go astray, though it can also attract Spam: It's your choice...
Apache is the industry-standard web server software which we use to ‘serve up’ your website to the world.
This is the core software architecture of your web hosting service; without it, nothing else would work.
A backup of everyone’s web space is taken every day. If something did go wrong (unlikely), then we can restore your site to the state of the previous backup. (We will only restore your web space from backup without charge if the problem was caused by us)
It's best to reach me by email, and you can expect a personal, friendly reply.
